Maine’s Superior Court, District Court issue emergency order vacating warrants for unpaid fines

The following order is from State of Maine Superior Court and District Court, effective March 16:

Effective immediately, any outstanding warrants for unpaid fines, unpaid restitution, unpaid court-appointed counsel fees, failure to appear for unpaid fine hearings, and any other failure to appear and pay other fees hereby VACATED.

The reason is: “Given the public health crisis, the financial warrants (not the fines owed) have been vacated so that the system might focus on those who pose a public safety risk,” according to a spokesperson for the Maine court system.
