Lozina Mae Ames, obituary
WASHINGTON — Lozina Mae Ames, age 90, died peacefully Thursday morning, November 27, 2025, at Bella Point Camden Assisted Living. She was surrounded by the loving care of her grandson, Dalton Reed, and her special daughter-in-law, Amy Ames.
Lozina was born on October 30, 1935, in Milbridge, Maine, to Ralph and Myrtle (Dunbar) Lindsey. She was raised in Steuben, Maine, in a place and time that instilled in her the essential values of strength, intelligence, and hard work. Lozina excelled academically and graduated as the Valedictorian of her high school class in 1953. She was awarded a scholarship by the Zonta Club to attend nursing school at Maine Medical Center, graduating as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1956. This was the start of an inspiring 52-year career in nursing, during which she mentored many young professionals while working at Camden Community Hospital, Rockland Convalescent Center, Camden Health Care Center, and Shore Village Nursing Home.
While in nursing school, Lozina was introduced on a blind date to Granville Ames, the man she would marry and dearly love. The couple settled in West Rockport and raised their family. Throughout their life together, Lozina and Granville shared a passion for travel, logging thousands of miles across North America on their motorcycle, including an epic trip to Alaska. Lozina was famously known for crocheting potholders and doilies while riding on the back of their touring bike. In addition to her knitting and crocheting, Lozina was a talented amateur photographer, capturing thousands of images and winning prizes at local fairs, festivals, and photo competitions. She also showcased her creativity by making personalized cards for every occasion using art stamps and her own photography.
Lozina had a strong and guiding faith in God, living by one of her favorite passages, Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." She was a devoted member of the West Rockport Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee and later participated in a mission trip to Northern Italy.
Lozina is survived by her beloved husband, Granville Ames, and two brothers, Byron Huntley and Gerry Lindsey. She will be dearly missed by her children: Carolyn Ames Cross; Clifton Ames and his wife, Amy; Cathleen Ames and her husband, Laudelino Cruz; and Shay Ames.
She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Kimberly Reed, Dalton Reed, Bryson Ames, Brayden Ames, Zeke Ames, Meraiah Collins and her husband Anthony, Clara Ames-Cruz, and Elliot Ames-Cruz. Her great- grandchildren include: Brinley Reed, Crew Reed, Isadora Reed, Ivory Reed, Lucas Singer, Lily-May Collins, and Emily Singer. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Everyone who knew Lozina has a story of how she was special to them and made a difference in their lives.
