Local memorial event to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day
Event Date
Monday, August 31, 2026 - 12:00 pm to 04:00 pmIn honor of International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31 of each year, Coastal Recovery Community Center will hold a memorial to all those we have lost to overdose over the years.
"Visit Coastal Recovery Community Center as we hold space for those that never made it home for dinner," said CRCC, in a news release.
The release continues: "CRCC knows the extreme pain of losing someone to an overdose. In 2026, 183 people lost their lives to overdose in Maine. While that number is down from previous years it still averages to one Mainer losing their life each day of this year so far. Even one loss is too many as each person that passes is someone’s mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague and friend."
Join CRCC on August 31, from Noon to 4 p.m., in remembering, sharing stories, and holding space for those that didn’t make it home for dinner.
"Part of our mission at CRCC is to teach everyone about Narcan, so your loved one can stay alive long enough to find their way to recovery," said CRCC.
Free training and Narcan will be available during this time as well.
"Get trained, Carry Narcan, Save a life," said the release.
Coastal Recovery Community Center (CRCC) is a safe, nonjudgmental space for every individual on their way to personal wellness. That pathway is not only for the individual struggling with substance and/or alcohol use, but their loved ones as well. CRCC offers safer use strategies and support aimed at improving health and wellness for people seeking and maintaining recovery.
