Larry William Luce Sr., obituary
WASHINGTON — Larry William Luce Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the Sussman House in Rockport, with his family by his side.
Larry was born on September 18, 1943, in Union, Maine, to Roland R. and Anna J. (Sukeforth) Luce. He grew up in Union and attended local schools. In January of 1961, Larry enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country until December of 1963, and earning the rank of SP4-Specialist.
Following his military service, Larry began a long and skilled career as a welder. He worked for Bath Iron Works and B.M. Clark before going on to Maine Yankee as a member of the Pipefitter/Welder Local Union 783/716. Larry was a proud union member for 50 years, and his work took him across the country for various jobs, including to Lake Placid, New York, where he helped build the bobsled run for the 1980 Winter Olympics.
On November 27, 1964, Larry married the love of his life, JoAnn Kennedy. Together they shared 58 years of marriage until her passing in 2022. Larry and JoAnn were the original owners of Come Spring Café in Union, Maine, where they became part of the fabric of the local community.
Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, buying and selling antiques, and spending time with those he loved. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his stories, his service to his country, and the life he built with his family.
Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife, JoAnn Luce.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Hall and husband Ethan Kramer of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Larry William Luce Jr. and wife Sue of Union, David Luce and wife Melissa of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and Jason Luce and wife Michelle of Sebago; as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro. Following the service, there will be a procession to Lakeview Cemetery in Union, where JoAnn and Larry will be laid to rest together.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry’s name to the Sussman House in Rockport.
