Hogan Road divergent diamond interchange construction begins April 20
BANGOR — Starting on April 20, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin work on a diverging diamond interchange on I-95 at Exit 187.
Crews will begin work by building the new bridge south of the existing bridges, according to MaineDOT, in a news release.
"During this phase, traffic impacts on Hogan Road will be minimal," said MaineDOT. "Most traffic patterns will remain unchanged until the new bridge is completed in late fall 2027. However, drivers may encounter occasional disruptions in 2026 and 2027, such as lane reductions or alternating traffic, as crews install new drainage systems and as utility companies relocate poles and wires."
Traffic on the interstate will be reduced to one lane northbound and one lane southbound with the northbound being reopened to two lanes from July 1 to September 12. Interstate ramps may be closed during the overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to facilitate work.
There will also be a few full weekend ramp closures, according to MaineDOT. All ramp closures will have notifications on message boards used throughout the project.
The project includes several major components such as the construction of a new bridge, rehabilitation of the existing Hogan Road eastbound bridge, and removal of the Hogan Road westbound bridge. It will also feature new signalized intersections at the interstate ramps and a protected pedestrian sidewalk crossing the interstate between the two remaining bridges.
Message boards are in place to inform drivers of the work taking place.
Work is expected to be completed by Fall 2029.
The contractor on this project is CPM Constructors of Freeport, Maine. The contract amount is $56,651,028.90.
This project is a recipient of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) RAISE Grant.
