Herring Gut Coastal Science Center announces new Board of Directors member
PORT CLYDE — Tom Fina has joined the Board of Directors for The Herring Gut Coastal Science Center.
Fina has sailed and explored Maine since the 1960s, when he fell in love with the Maine coast and islands as a child, according to Herring Gut, in a news release. Born in Italy and raised in Washington, D.C. and Italy, Fina attended Harvard College and the University of Virginia School of Law. Post college, he worked for four years as a lobbyist in the New Jersey State Legislature.
After graduating from law school, he practiced antitrust law representing companies before the U.S. and international antitrust enforcement agencies. Fina guided numerous mergers and acquisitions, in a wide range of industries, through the U.S. and international merger control review process. He was a partner at Collier, Shannon, Rill & Scott, Howrey LLP, and Baker Botts. Currently, he is Senior Counsel at Baker Botts.
“We are very pleased that Tom is willing to join our active and engaged board. His perspective and life experience will allow us to strategically plan for the future and address current challenges," said Dr. Sarah Oktay, executive director of Herring Gut.
Fina and his wife, Michelle, divide their time among Owls Head, Bethesda, Maryland and Italy.
The mission of the Herring Gut Coastal Science Center is educating students and communities about the connections between the ocean, inland waters, and economy of Maine.
