Big winds knock down trees in multiple Knox County locations
KNOX COUNTY — Firefighters and Public Works departments throughout Knox County have been called into service, Thursday evening, Dec. 4, due to fallen trees. Astronomers had predicted a super moon for December 4.
Between approximately 6:15 p.m. and 8:25 p.m., wind gusts downed trees, temporarily causing road closures in the towns of North Haven (Pulpit Harbor Road), Union (Sidelinger Road), Rockland (Rankin Street), South Thomaston (Dublin Road), Washington (West Washington Road), and St. George (Cottage Road). Other trees may have fallen in other places, as well.
Those trees that weren't tangled with electrical wires were dealt with quickly. Those with wires required a wait for Central Maine Power.
Temperatures at 8 p.m. were around 19 degrees in Rockland.
Among the 911 calls regarding trees, a report of fire drew mutual aid fire departments to lower Rankin Street. The kitchen fire was extinguished quickly, and mutual aid was cancelled en route.
