Frank H. Whiting, obituary
SEARSPORT — Frank "Sonny" Herbert Whiting passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by his family and caregivers, and is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior. He was 90 years old.
Frank was born March 5, 1936, in Searsport, to Frank O. Whiting and Estelle N. (Moulton) Whiting. He was raised in Searsport, and graduated with the Searsport High School Class of 1955.
Frank worked at the GAC Chemical Corporation (formerly Delta Chemical) for many years. He was a dedicated worker, and once when he could not drive through two and a half feet of snow, he walked to the plant to keep it running. He opened, closed, and maintained cottages along the coast of Searsport for seventy plus years.
Later in his life, he studied at Eastern Maine Technical College in Bangor, where he received a Degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Frank married Lucy Annie Moody on March 30, 1956, and they filled their life together with hard work, family, faith, and volunteerism.
Frank was an active community member who served as a firefighter, ambulance driver, town selectman, and Searsport Board Member for the former MSAD 56 school system. He was a Mason for 68 years for Mariners Masonic Lodge 68 and was a lifetime volunteer for 4H and the cooperative extension service for Waldo County.
He treasured his time with his family and friends, had a great love of food, especially shellfish, and was known to tell many work stories or jokes remembering all the details of each encounter.
He was a truly loving and giving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He was loved by them all for his support, comfort, encouragement and many stories. Most especially, he was loved by his wife, his daughters (aka the 4 J’s), grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife, Lucy A. (Moody) Whiting; his parents, Frank O. Whiting and Estelle N. (Moulton) Whiting; his sister, Jacqueline (Whiting) McAllister (and husband Ned); and his beloved daughter Joyce M. Weaver.
He is survived by his three daughters, Janice R. Whiting-Bucklin (and husband Benjamin) of Belmont, Jackie L. Joy (and husband David) of Windham, and Jillene F. Whiting of Searsport; his son-in-law, Paul W. Weaver of Winterport; his granddaughters, Nicole E. Joy (and husband Christopher Albrecht), Sara E. Ballard (and husband Greg), and Erica L. Joy; his grandsons, Craig A. Weaver (and wife Kaitlyn), Benjamin W. Bucklin, and Jacob A. Bucklin; his great-grandchildren, Terry Brian Worcester, Arianna Worcester, Maximilian Ballard, Lillian Ballard and Maizie Weaver; his nephew, Ned McAllister (and wife Sandy); his caretaker and friend at the end of his life, Tasha Hill; and many cherished extended family members and friends.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to his end-of-life care team, Tasha Hill and Amanda Buzzell and for the support of Bristol Hospice.
A family graveside service will be held in Elmwood Cemetery. A celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Waldo County Shrine Club, 22 Northport Avenue, Belfast.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Searsport Fire Department and the American Heart Association.
Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
We love you to the moon and back, always and forever.
