ROCKPORT — In a showdown of two of the top Class A teams in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference, Edward Little came out on top against Camden Hills with a 2-1 varsity boys soccer win Saturday, Oct. 8.

The Windjammers struck first after being awarded a penalty kick when one of the Eddies’ pushed a Camden Hills player in the penalty box midway through the first half. Senior captain Max Welt finished the penalty and the 'Jammers took a 1-0 lead but it didn't last long.

On a long free kick Mohamed Adow evened the score for Edward Little, beating 'Jammer keeper Brian Leonard to a lofted ball and flicking it into the net from 15 yards out.

It was a back and forth game until 10 minutes into the second half when Campbell Cassidy beat two Windjammer defenders in the penalty area and slot home a shot to the back post.

Camden Hills put lots of pressure on the Edward Little net for the remainder of the game but just couldn't find the equalizer.

Camden Hills finished the game with a 15-7 edge in shots and 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Brian Leonard was credited with five saves and Edward Little netminder Eli St. Laurent was excellent turning aside six saves.

We played exceptionally today and once again didn't come away with the result we felt we deserved. Credit to Edward Little, they played well and their all-star caliber players made the difference today.

While our four losses have been tough to swallow they have in fact been a gift. We have had a preview of what we need to do to get to a state final and we will make some corrections that will hopefully make the difference when it matters most.
