Christine ‘Missy’ (Doyle) Povosky, obituary
HOPE — Christine ‘Missy’ Anne Povosky (Doyle) passed away at peace and with family in Augusta on Monday, May 26, 2026.
Missy was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, New York, May 19, 1961.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dolores J (Ohler) Andreasen and Charles W. Doyle; her step-father, Charles E. Andreasen; siblings, Robert W. Doyle, Timothy C. Doyle; and her husband Richard Povosky.
Missy grew up in Rochester, New York and attended Charlotte and Greece Schools.
She held various jobs over the years in health care, retail and even drove a school bus for a few years.
She loved her family and friends fiercely, mostly her little brother and sister but especially her two daughters. She met her first husband, Hugh Knight, hitchhiking home from California. He brought her to Maine, she fell in love, and only lived in other places for brief periods after that. The longest and last time she left Maine was to bring her girls home to New York so they could be close to her family. She came back to Maine around 1998 and that’s where she stayed.
She married her second husband, Richard Povosky, in 1993, they lived happily until he passed away in 1997. She enjoyed cooking, all the lighthouses and had compassion for people that many don’t.
Missy was the life of the party and was loved by so many whom she considered family. She would have done anything for most people. She left too soon but the way she wanted.
She is survived by daughters, Sadie D. Knight and Carlie M. Knight; grandchildren, Lylah P.A. Cambell, Owen D. Campbell and Maddison M. York-Campbell; sister, Jeanne M. Andreasen; step-sister, Peggy (Andreasen) Boheen (Scott); step-brother, Peter Andreasen (Irina); niece Darcy J. Tate, nephews, Timothy J. Doyle and Jack D.A. Fifield; great-nephews and great-nieces, Tevin J. Doyle, Timara M. Doyle, Essence S. Doyle and Timothy J. Doyle Jr.; and way too many cousins to count!
A gathering will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A ceremony for family and friends will be held at Holy Ghost Cemetery in New York sometime during early September.
