UPDATE: Search teams on Katahdin recover body of second missing hiker

UPDATE: A team of Maine Game Wardens and a MASAR technical rescue team (Maine Association of Search and Rescue) located Esther at approximately 1 p.m. this afternoon. She was found in a boulder area between the Cathedral and Saddle trails off the Tablelands, approximately 1,000 feet from where her father was found yesterday.
Searchers had been looking for Esther and her father Tim Keiderling since Monday, June 2, when they found their unattended vehicle in a day-use parking lot.
Tim Keiderling, 58, and his daughter Esther Keiderling, 28, both of Ulster Park, New York, had left Abol Campground on Sunday to hike to the summit of Katahdin. They were last seen on the Abol trail at approximately 10:15 a.m. on the section known as The Tablelands.

The Maine Forest Service and Maine Army National Guard provided multiple helicopters to this mission which was essential throughout the search. Both provided assistance in searching for the missing hikers and offered transport services for searchers, ferrying them from the base of Maine’s tallest mountain to the summit area.
Last night, Tuesday evening, June 3, the Maine Army National Guard used a Lokota helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging device (FLIR unit) to search from early evening well into the night with no traces of Esther Keiderling detected.
