Brian Swartz to give 'A Deep Dive into Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and the Civil War'
The Union Historical Society will host an engaging and insightful event featuring renowned historian and journalist Brian Swartz, June 11, 2025, at 7 p.m., at Old Town House, 128 Town House Rd, Union.
Swartz will present his research on Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and his enduring role in the Civil War, uncovering new perspectives on a pivotal chapter of American history.
This event offers attendees the chance to explore the intricate history of the Civil War through the lens of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain’s legacy, enriched by Brian Swartz’s expert insights and personal passion for the subject. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for a lively question-and-answer session where guests can engage directly with the presenter.
Raised in Brewer, Maine, Brian Swartz brings 39 years of experience in newspaper reporting and editing — including a 27-year tenure at the Bangor Daily News. He currently informs and inspires the community through his work with County Wide News and Discover Maine Magazine, and he is a regular contributor to Emerging Civil War. His deep, personal connection to Civil War history stems from his lineage as a descendant of Shenandoah Valley Confederates, fueling his passion for the subject.
In addition to his career in journalism, Swartz is also an accomplished author and digital storyteller. He writes the weekly Maine at War blog, shares his research via the Maine at War YouTube channel, and has published several acclaimed history books. His works include:
