Camden Select Board to elect chair, reappoint staff, consider accepting a generator donation
Every June, at the first meeting following annual Town Meeting, the Camden Select Board addresses its internal structure; e.g., who will be chair, who will be vice chair. It is also the meeting when the Select Board decides whether to reappoint its assessor, wastewater superintendent, police and fire chiefs, and health officer. The Board also confirms the list of Town Manager appointments, ranging from the harbor master to the assistant town manager, and many in between.
The Camden Select Board will tend to those reappointments and its board organization Tuesday evening, June 16, in the French Conference Room, beginning at 6:30 p.m. An executive session is scheduled for the end of the meeting, cited as personnel-related.
The meeting will be streamed live on YouTube. Those intending to participate may do so via Zoom. Read the meeting packet here.
In addition to internal business, the Select Board will renew victualer licenses for several establishments and consider requests from residents to hold summer block parties.
And, the Select Board will decide whether to accept the donation of a used generator from Brock Health (Bella Point Camden Assisted Living), on Mechanic Street, and relocate it to Camden's Public Safety Building. In a June 11 memo to the Town Manager and Select Board, Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley explained that the generator has been offered to the town by Brock Health, which is in the process of a larger mechanical systems upgrade.
"In asking what will happen with the existing generator, we had a conversation about Brock Health donating their outgoing generator to the Town of Camden for use at the Public Safety Building," wrote Farley.
Brock Health agreed and said its used generator would become available prior to June 23.
"According to the facilities director, the generator being donated is on a regular maintenance schedule," wrote Farley. "We have determined that this generator provides double the power generating capacity as the one currently in use at the Public Safety Building. The town's existing generator does not fully power the Public Safety Building, which impacts the ability of police, fire, EMS, and Emergency Management to provide services during critical and widespread events. Once replaced with the donated generator, the town's existing generator could be repurposed for use at the Public Works facility."
Farley estimates the costs associated with moving the generator to the Public Safety Building to be $24,000. To replace the town's generator with a new one would cost $70,000 to $80,000, he said.
