ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills varsity girls lacrosse team was edged out at home Monday, May 17 in a nail-biter against Mount Ararat.

In the goalie net, Maddie Boetsch tallied seven saves for the Windjammers while A. Pickens recorded nine for Mount Ararat.

“It was a great evenly matched game [and it] really came down to who controlled the ball at the end of the game,” said Camden Hills head coach Wade Ward. “We at times struggled to possess the ball, be patient and ended up turning the ball over too many times.”

Overall, the closer thriller was a great opportunity of a learning experience for the Windjammers.

“It was a good opportunity to see what our girls would do when placed in a come from behind position,” said Ward. “I was happy to see that our girls never really felt like they were out of it, they stayed confident that they could get goals back. The game gave us some good talking points in-between games and some area's to focus our efforts.”

Junior Varsity: Mount Ararat 7, Camden Hills 3

The junior varsity contest was a seven-on-seven match with a pair of 15 minute running halves that saw Mount Ararat collect a 7-3 victory.

Scoring for Camden Hills were Eliana Cortese, Zola Roberts and Anna Hildreth.

McKinley Boetsch protected the goalie net for Camden Hills and recorded six saves.

Johanna Billington, the Camden Hills junior varsity coach, noted the junior varsity Windjammers “played amazingly well, especially in in the second half.”
