ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills varsity and junior varsity girls lacrosse squads continued their respective seasons Thursday, May 13 at home in Rockport.

The varsity Windjammers earned itself a victory while the junior varsity Windjammers fell short.

Both the Camden Hills varsity and junior varsity squads will challenge Mount Ararat at home Monday, May 17. The varsity game will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity contest to follow.

Varsity Game

The Windjammers extended its record to 5-0 Thursday night courtesy an 18-3 victory over Lincoln Academy.

Leading the offensive charge for Camden Hills were Ruby Cohen (goal), Anna Griebel (assist), Bella Ward (two goals, three assists), Sofia Mott (three goals, assist), Caroline Contento (four goals), Alexia Cazemajou (goal, assist), Anya Babb-Brott (two goals), Ava Baeza (goal), Ella Powers (two goals, assist), Grace Cody (two goals).

Maddie Boetsch tallied nine saves in the goalie net for Camden Hills.

“Our girls took this opportunity to try to move the ball and work for the right shot,” said Camden Hills head coach Wade Ward. “They worked to get balanced and punch the ball around, attacking the defense and working to find the openings. I was happy to see our girls play patient and work to take the right shot — finding space.”

Ward also commented on his team’s strong defense against the fast-paced Lincoln Academy offense.

“Lincoln played an up-tempo game and were able to move our defense and work us to move and cover cutters,” he said. “They allowed our defense and midfielders to have to pressure out and cover adjuncts.”

Junior Varsity

After the conclusion of the varsity affair, the Camden Hills junior varsity girls team challenged Oceanside at home, falling to visiting Mariners 9-4.

Notching goals for the Windjammers were Zola Roberts, Ella Cloutier (two) and Anna Hildreth.

McKinly Boetsch tallied 10 saves in the goalie net for Camden Hills.

The contest was a tough seven-on-seven game for Camden Hills against an aggressive Oceanside squad, observed Ward.

“This was a great day for the JV to get some tough competition to test their steadily improving skill sets,” said Ward. “The ball is moving faster and the stick protection is getting stronger.”
