SOUTH CHINA — The Camden Hills varsity and junior varsity girls lacrosse teams hit the road Monday, May 24 to challenge Erskine Academy in South China, and both teams returned to the Midcoast victorious. 

Both squads will hit the road for its next contest Wednesday, May 26 as they travel to Bath to challenge Mount Ararat. 

Varsity: Camden Hills 16, Erskine Academy 2

The visiting Windjammers dominated the contest and carried a 12-0 advantage into the halftime pause. 

“We were fortunate to get off to a fast start and capitalize on some early opportunities,” said Camden Hills head coach Wade Ward. 

Leading the offensive charge for Camden Hills were Grace Cody (three goals, assist), Anna Griebel (goal), Sofia Mott (two goals, three assists), Bella Ward (three assists), Caroline Contento (three goals, assist), Alexia Cazemajou (three goals), Ella Powers (goal), Anya Babb-Brott (two goals, assist), Ruby Cohen (goal, assist). 

“I tasked our girls with being patent in their transition and patience in the offense to find the right shot not the right now shot,” said Ward. “Today we were able to transition the ball into the middle third of the field and run down hill from there. In the second half I was impressed with how our girls started to recognize the doubles and move the ball. The second half provided us with a great opportunity to work on the one more pass.” 

Camden Hills goalkeeper Maddie Boetsch tallied five saves for the Windjammers. 

“We are blessed with a good amount of seniors this year and they are starting to get more and more busy, this game is giving them the chance to step away from those big decisions and play and celebrate their long journey to get here,” commented Ward. 

Junior Varsity: Camden Hills 5, Erskine Academy 2

Scoring for the Windjammers were Anna Hildreth (three) and Zola Roberts (two). 

McKinley Boestch recorded eight saves for the Windjammers. 

JV coach Hanna Billington noted the Windjammers played with heads up transition and exhibited “great transition through the midfield.” 

“Coach Hanna and I can't over emphasize the level of progression for these girls,” said Ward. “They continue to work hard in practice take our corrections and get in as many good practice reps as possible.”
