Brunswick field hockey tops Windjammers in Wednesday contest

Thu, 09/06/2018 - 6:15pm

BRUNSWICK — The Camden Hills field hockey team fell on the road against Brunswick by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

With the loss, the Windjammers drop to 0-2 on the season, including a season opening 2-1 loss against Mount Ararat on Aug. 30.

Windjammer goals were scored by Alyssa Bland and Lulu Lydon and both were assisted by Ashlee McIntosh. Brunswick goals were scored by Sara Scapchansky, Shea Sullivan, Lauren Jacobs, and Eliza Rudalevige. All goals were scored in the first half.

Thoughts from Camden Hills head coach Lindsey Clement on the game:

Both teams fought hard, and the game was mostly a battle for possession. The field conditions made it tough for our players to adjust; they’re used to a quick and clean style of play, but the field didn’t allow for smooth individual skills. We had to adapt an entirely passing based game, which was a challenge for a lot of our players who generally rely on dribbling and breakaways. Brunswick took advantage and quickly scored three goals in the first fifteen minutes.

Ashlee McIntosh and Capri Buck both played very smart in the midfield and worked hard to maintain possession and distribute the ball to teammates. We made some adjustments to our midfield and defense early on in the game, which hurt us a little bit. Thankfully Mackenzie Power was a rock on our defensive line shutting down Brunswick’s offense. Lexi Tinch was stellar on the front line, consistently fighting for possession and advancing the ball down the field. Lexi’s skills and speed started almost every offensive push, often times finding Lulu Lydon open to finish the attack. Lulu’s speed, grit, and quick shots are proving to be tough for the opponent’s defense. Alyssa Bland is also proving tough to contain on our front line, even as a freshman. Both Lulu and Alyssa are consistently getting good shots on goal, and hopefully they’ll continue to find the back of the net this season.

Our girls all worked hard today, some in new positions, and it was impressive that they came back fighting after a three goal deficit. We have two challenging games ahead, and hopefully we can maintain a steady momentum and rhythm throughout the whole game.
