American Legion Post 30 honors Jerry Carr at Five Town Little League opening ceremony
Event Date
Saturday, May 02, 2026 - 11:00 amAmerican Legion Post 30 will join the Five Town Little League (FTLL) community on May 2, at 11 a.m., to dedicate the baseball season to the memory of Specialist 4 Jerald “Jerry” W. Carr. In a ceremony held at the FTLL fields, members of Post 30 will raise the American flag to honor Carr’s legacy of military service and his lifelong commitment to the Midcoast community.
Jerry Carr, a veteran of the U.S. Army’s 79th Ordnance Battalion, served at Tan Son Nhut Air Base during the Vietnam War. As a heavy equipment operator and power unit maintenance specialist, he was awarded the “Vietnam Triple” medals: the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Beyond his time in uniform, Carr was a pillar of the American Legion for 40 years, according to Post 30 Adjutant Jeff Sukeforth of American Legion Post 30. He held leadership roles at every level, serving as Commander of Post 30, District Commander for Knox County, and Area Commander for the Department of Maine.
“We will raise the flag as a symbol of Jerry’s dedication to his country and his hometown,” said Sukeforth. “But we also raise it for these players and families. Supporting American youth is one of the Legion’s Four Pillars, and we are proud to share this community spirit with Five Town Little League.”
The flag will fly over the fields for the duration of the baseball season. In a final tribute at the close of the season, Post 30 members will return to lower the flag and formally present it to the Carr family in recognition of Jerry’s enduring service.
The ceremony will conclude with the singing of the National Anthem and a community recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, marking a continued partnership between the veterans of Post 30 and the families of FTLL.
