Rockport man violates protective order for woman he assaulted
ROCKLAND — A Rockport man was arrested again after police say he violated his probation conditions by contacting a woman after he was convicted of a domestic violence assault in 2015.
Rockport Police Officer Cooper Plaisted arrested Eldon Bennett, 32, of Rockport, for violating probation and violating a protection from abuse order. Bennett made his court appearance Dec. 9 in Knox County Unified Court.
According to the court document, the victim contacted police Dec. 3 to report that Bennett, who was her ex-boyfriend, had tagged her Nov. 13 in a post on Facebook. When police asked the victim why she did not contact them earlier, she said that she wanted to advise her attorney, Attorney Alison Briggs, of Rockport, since she has a pending civil lawsuit against Bennett.
When Plaisted questioned Bennett about the Facebook post, he said it was unintentional but must have made the post since no one logs in to his personal Facebook account, according to the police report.
Bennett pleaded no contest in April 2015 to a domestic violence assault and received a sentence of three years with all but nine months suspended, probation for two years, with one of the conditions being that he did not have any contact with the victim.
Bennett has previous convictions for domestic violence assaults, domestic criminal threatening, operating while his license was suspended or revoked and operating a vehicle without a license.
Judge Patricia Worth set bail at $2,500, but Bennett remains in jail pending a probation revocation hearing, a motion filed by the state, for allegedly contacting the victim on Facebook.
Bennett’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 15.
