WINTERPORT — A 36-year-old Winterport woman sustained non-life threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon when she drove across railroad tracks and failed to see or hear an oncoming train.

Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton said that Danielle Godley was driving a four-door 2007 Hyundai on Meadow Road on Sept. 15 when the accident occurred around 2:35 p.m. Godley’s vehicle approached the railroad crossing near Ellingwood Corner and Trafton said she did not notice a train nearing the crossing.

“The conductor was blowing the train’s horn and as the vehicle was almost across the tracks, the train struck the vehicle on the driver’s side rear door,” said Trafton.

The train, owned by Central Maine and Quebec Railway, was being conducted by Spencer Falardeau, 34, of Norridgewock. The engineer on the train was Anthony Goodine, 49, of Atkinson.

“Both men stated the train was sounding the horn approximately a quarter of a mile prior to the road crossing,” said Trafton.

The collision pushed Godley’s Hyundai off the road and into the ditch. Winterport Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene along with the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Godley was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Nobody on the train was injured.
