Stephen C. Rolerson, obituary
ISLESBORO — Stephen Clyde Rolerson, 65, passed away Sept. 7, 2015, at the Boardman Cottage on Islesboro.
Born May 1, 1950, he was the son of Clyde and Lydia Rolerson and a lifelong resident of Islesboro. He was a loving father, an incredibly devoted husband of 29 years and steadfast caregiver to his late wife, Suzanne (Grady) Rolerson. The unconditional love and support Steve and Suzanne had for each other and their children through the most difficult of life's trials is held in the memory and hearts of all who knew them.
Steve served in the U.S. Marines, which included basic training at Parris Island, S.C., and a tour in the Mediterranean on the USS Fremont in 1968. After his time in the service, Steve continued his education in drafting school and spent time in many parts of the U.S. before settling back on Islesboro, marrying and raising a family.
Steve was a man of many creative talents, interests and occupations, some of which included: clam digger, property caretaker, landscaper, artist, wood carver, story teller and archaeological enthusiast - acquiring a unique collection of island Native American arrowheads and artifacts. He was funny, charismatic and well known to his friends and loved ones for his unfailing sense of humor and quick wit. In the last year of his life Steve got to spend time with all of his children and grandchildren and even learned how to use a computer. He was especially fond of exploring subjects he was interested in on YouTube.
Steve was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne; his parents, Clyde and Lydia Rolerson; and his brother, Darrell Rolerson.
Surviving him are his daughter, Kara Welch of Minneapolis, Minn., her husband, John Welch, and their two daughters, Juniper and Alafaire; his son, Amon Rolerson of Live Oaks, Fla., and his two sons, Marcus and Evan; his daughter, Nyiah Rolerson of Rockland; his son, Elan Rolerson of Islesboro; his brother, Wayne Rolerson of Islesboro; his brother, Stuart Rolerson of Chelsea; his partner, Priscilla Pushard; many relatives, friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the Islesboro Sporting Club on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. Steve's final resting place will be at the Pendleton Cemetery on Old County Road in Islesboro at an undetermined later date.
In lieu of flowers, Steve would like any memorial donations to be made to the Islesboro Community Fund, an organization very dear to the family's heart, at P.O. Box 116, Islesboro, ME 04848 or online at islesborocommunityfund.org.
