Appleton Village School receives grant for garden shed
APPLETON — Appleton Village School has received a $3,120 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant to purchase a tool shed and associated tools for its school garden project.
The funding was awarded for the Appleton Roots Garden project. AVS' grant application was based on the goal of increasing accessibility and participation in the garden program. Having tools close at hand in a nearby shed will make it easier for classes to get right to work and to clean up easily afterwards.
The school's garden was created as an outdoor classroom to promote healthy eating, teach students where their food comes from and integrate gardening into elements of the curriculum. AVS hopes to increase garden participation at all grade levels and enable parents and community volunteers to contribute more readily.
All K-12 public schools in the United States are eligible for the Toolbox for Education program. More information is available at ToolboxforEducation.com.
