Mariner JV boys power past Mustangs in season opener










ROCKLAND — The Oceanside boys junior varsity basketball team opened the season with a dominating 67-39 win over visiting Mount View of Thorndike.
After playing to a 24-14 half time lead for the Mariners, they exploded for 32 points in the third quarter to grab a 56-26 lead heading into the final stanza.
Anthony Marsh led the scoring for the Mariners with 14 points; Nick Tinker 12; Andrew King and Michael Norton nine each; Coby Dorr eight; Josh Luttrell seven; Zach Gledhill five; and Josef Berger three.
Oceanside was 10-of-18 (56 percent) from the foul line and knocked down 11 three pointers — Tinker (4), Marsh (3), and King, Berger, Luttrell and Gledhill (1 each).
For Mount View, Kalvin Croteau had 10 points; Kevin Richards five; Liam Cail, Kevin Randell, Mathew Keating and Alex Sobey four each; Alan Gibbs and Devon Davis three each; and Colton Medina two.
The young Mustangs were 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the foul line and had one 3-pointer from Davis.
Next up for the Mariners will be Tuesday, Dec. 9 when they travel to Belfast.
Mount View will host Medomak Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 9 in its next contest.
