Granite sculpture grounds Rockland Public Library

Rockland artist Joe Auciello installed, June 17, a six-foot tall sculpture of a book that will act as a sign at the corner of the Rockland Public Library grounds near the corner of Union and Beech streets. The piece was made of a 5,800-pound slab of Jonesboro red granite and stands six feet tall.
"It was great to work on this project,” said Auciello. “A lot of people stopped by while I was working on it at the Sail Power & Steam Museum. I'm glad it will be seen by so many people."
The sign was commissioned by the Friends of Rockland Public Library and carved over the course of this spring at themuseum at Sharp's Point South.
Several local businesses donated goods and services for the installation, including George C. Hall & Sons, E. L. Spear, Rockland Marine, the City of Rockland, Rockport Steel, Ferraiolo Construction, and Prock Marine.
