Falu Shah brings unique South Indian style to Bay Chamber
Falu Shah makes her Bay Chamber debut on Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. Shah is a GRAMMY Award winner who has collaborated with musicians as diverse as Yo-Yo Ma, John Batiste, and Wyclef Jean, and occupies a unique station in the ever-rich domain of world music.
"Seamlessly blending modern Indian music stylings with her classically trained voice, Falu has carved out her own musical genre known as 'Indie Hindi,'" said Bay Chamber, in a news release.
The Mumbai-born artist has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Grand Old Opry and numerous other distinguished venues around the globe.
Shah will treat audiences to her rich, melodious voice and original songs.
“My music, what I write, what I sing, is going back to my Indian roots and bringing that into my music and reinterpreting it with American musicians who come from different backgrounds,” said Shah.
During her time as a performer, Shah has become a citizen of the world. She speaks seven languages and performs in 12. Her fourth album, A Colorful World, won the 2022 GRAMMY Award for Best Children’s Album. With this song-filled journey through South Asia, Shah became the first Indian-born singer-songwriter to win the recording world’s top honor.
