UPDATE: More charges filed against Knox County Jail guard arrested for alleged sexual assault of inmate
CORRECTION (Jan. 20) — A Knox County Jail guard who allegedly assaulted a female inmate is currently incarcerated in the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth. It was incorrectly reported on Jan. 13 that the Knox County Jail guard, Andre Elbreisus, had posted bail and was released from jail.
A judge lowered the amount at a Jan. 6 hearing while the state filed additional charges against the man. The bail amount for Elbreisus was lowered by Judge John Martin from $10,000 to $2,500 cash at the hearing.
According to Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky, Elbreisus is now currently housed at the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth. We regret the reporting error.
UPDATE: ROCKLAND (Jan. 13) — Andre Elbreisus, 41, of Searsmont, appeared at a bail hearing Jan. 6 after his court appointed defense attorney, Seth Levy, of Brunswick, filed a motion to amend his client’s bail originally set at $10,000 cash by Justice Jeffrey Hjelm Dec. 2.
The attorney filed the motion, filed Dec. 7, stating that Elbreisus would not be able to raise $10,000 cash and the amount set could result in actually denying him bail.
The District Attorney’s office also filed additional charges against Elbreisus including two additional charges of unlawful sexual contact and tampering with a witness or informant while the suspect was a guard at the Knox County Jail.
The charge of tampering alleges that Elbreisus put money into one of the victim’s inmate personal account so she would not talk about the alleged sexual contact, according to the state.
According to a statement by Sheriff Patrick Polky Dec. 7, Elbreisus is on administrative leave.
Elbreisus is scheduled to appear in court again Feb. 23 for a dispositional conference.
ROCKLAND – A Knox County Jail guard who was arrested Nov. 30 for an alleged sexual assault of a female inmate is being held at the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.
Andre Elbreisus, 41, of Searsmont, was charged by Rockland Police with Class B gross sexual assault.
He made his initial court appearance Dec. 2 via zoom before Justice Jeffrey Hjelm who set bail at $10,000 cash.

“Information alleging that CO Elbreisus engaged in this conduct came to us at the beginning of November,” said Sheriff Patrick Polky Dec. 7. “We immediately made contact with the district attorney and the Rockland Police Department (PD) was assigned as the investigating agency. We have cooperated fully with their investigation and placed CO Elbreisus on administrative leave.”
