Town of Lincolnville seeks volunteers for municipal boards, committees, commissions
LINCOLNVILLE — The Lincolnville Board of Selectmen is seeking volunteers to assist in keeping its community the wonderful, vibrant community it is by serving on one of the town’s various volunteer boards, committees or commissions.
Each Town committee is comprised of Lincolnville residents dedicated to preserving, maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for residents of Lincolnville. The committees work for and in partnership with the Board of Selectmen on the various aspects of local government.
All of these opportunities are volunteer positions. If you have questions about any of these groups, or are interested in volunteering, please contact the Town Administrator at info@town.lincolnville.me.us or 207-763-3555. The Board of Selectmen consider applicants on a rolling basis however most appointments are made within the first 30 days following the annual Town Meeting.
The Town of Lincolnville is seeking community members interested in volunteering on any of several town committees or project teams for which vacancies exist or upcoming vacancies are expected.
Are you passionate about protecting our lakes and ponds, open spaces or have an interest in environmental sustainability? Are you interested in the harbor? Does land use and its development spark your interest? Are you interested in improving the town’s parks and recreation programs? Do you have a skill or experience you think could benefit the town?
If you can say “yes” to any of these questions, then the Town would like to hear from you.
Below is a list of its committees and a brief description of each.
Board of Appeals: This Board works to hear appeals concerning decisions made by the Code Enforcement Officer or Planning Board. It meets on an as needed basis.
Board of Assessment Review: The Board of Assessment Review is convened to hear a property owner’s appeal for a property valuation abatement denied by the Board of Assessors. The Board meets on an as needed basis.
Broadband Committee: The Broadband Committee advises the Board of Selectmen on issues surrounding citizen access to affordable high-speed internet service, particularly in unserved or under-served areas of the community. The Committee is being reformed and will meet on an as needed basis.
Cemetery Trustees: The Cemetery Trustees overs the maintenance and upkeep of Town owned cemeteries and any other obligations that the Town has in regards to cemeteries such the care of Veterans graves and the care of abandoned cemeteries. The Trustees meet on an as needed basis.
Comprehensive Plan Review Committee: The Comprehensive Plan Review Committee reviews and updates the Comprehensive Plan to assure that it meets current needs and requirements of the community. The Committee meets on an as needed basis.
Conservation Commission: The Conservation Commission works to preserve and manage the natural resources in the Town and to promote good conservation practices, including the oversight of public shade trees. The Commission meets bimonthly on the second Monday of the month.
Financial Advisory Committee: The Financial Advisory Committee identifies investment objectives, assists the Board of Selectmen in defining risk tolerance, monitors the investment process and periodically reports to the Board of Selectmen. The Committee meets on an as needed basis but at least twice per calendar year.
Harbor Committee: The Harbor Committee acts as an advisory committee to the Board of Selectmen on matters related to the harbor and prepares grant applications for harbor related marine projects. The Harbor Committee meets at least quarterly.
Inland Waterways Mooring Committee: The Inland Waterways Mooring Committee has been tasked with examining the issues surrounding moorings in the inland waters and to make a recommendation as to what option, if any, is necessary to regulate such moorings. The Committee meets on an as needed basis.
Lakes & Ponds Committee: The Lakes & Ponds Committee seeks to preserve and enhance the lakes and ponds within the town while working to maintain or create public access to the lakes and ponds for the enjoyment of the public. The Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Land Use Committee: The Land Use Committee at the direction of the Board of Selectmen writes, rewrites and/or amends land use ordinances in collaboration with the Planning Board. Meetings are scheduled on an as needed basis.
Memorial Day Parade Committee: The Memorial Day Parade Committee organizes and oversees the remembrances occurring on Memorial Day. The meetings are held on an as needed basis.
Planning Board: The Planning Board review subdivision applications in accordance with Lincolnville’s Subdivision Ordinance, review applications for activity in the Shoreland Zone and for Commercial Site Plans in accordance with the provisions of the Land Use Ordinance, and work in collaboration with the Land Use Committee to prepare amendments for zoning and other land use ordinances. The Planning Board meets on second and last Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
Recreation Commission: The Recreation Commission advises the Town and the Board of Selectmen on matters of recreation and supervises any Town recreation programs. The Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month.
Wage & Personnel Policy Board: The primary role of the Wage & Personnel Policy Board is to explore the Town’s employment policies (including but not limited to: salary, benefits, job descriptions, and contracts) and to review and update the town Personnel Policy. The Board meets on an as needed basis.
Elected Positions: The Town of Lincolnville also has many positions elected by the voters at Town Meeting to serve the community. The positions include: Board of Selectmen (also the Board of Assessors and Overseers of the Poor), the Lincolnville Central School Committee, the Five Town Community School District School Board, and the Budget Committee.
