Ian Mauricette, obituary
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — Ian Mauricette passed away on July 5, 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 25. He was born on a sailboat in Charlotte Amalie, USVI, in 1993, and moved to Owls Head, Maine, in 1997.
He was an active young man, infectiously happy and outgoing. Ian loved soccer, skiing, hiking and outright adventures of any sort. He passionately skied the Snowbowl and Sugarloaf Mountains at every opportunity he could all winter long. He thoroughly enjoyed taking the path less traveled, hiking the trail unknown, and skiing the backside of Sugarloaf without hesitation.
Ian graduated from Oceanside High School in 2013 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism with concentration in Nature-Based Tourism from the University of Maine in 2017. He studied abroad in Costa Rica for a month directing a research project of the feasibility of adventure tourism.
Ian moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2018, where he began studying to become a pilot. While taking flight school, Ian worked as an Inside Sales Representative for UPS, coordinating opportunities and proposals for customers. He lived fearlessly in a new part of the country, exploring national forests, parks and monuments with friends in his free time between work and flight school.
Ian is the son of Charlie and Emily J. Mauricette, both deceased. He is survived by his brother, Eric and his wife Brittany Mauricette; niece, Emily Mauricette; Uncle Peter and Aunt Jan Johnson; Uncle Kyp and Aunt Susan Johnson; Uncle Horace and Aunt Jennifer Springer; cousins, Silica Johnson, Seneca Johnson, Frederick Johnson, Taz Johnson, Dominique Dixon, Emily Johnson, and Elizabeth Johnson.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 13, at 6 p.m., at Rockland Congregational Church. Also in Ian’s memory everyone is welcome to come hike Ragged Mountain, one of his favorite hikes, on Saturday, Sept 14, at 9 a.m., from the Route 17 parking lot.
In lieu of flowers, family asks donations in Ian’s memory be sent to Georges River Land Trust, 8 North Main Street, Suite 200, Rockland, ME 04841.
