SEARSPORT — Robert J. Ellis, 82, of Searsport, passed away after a long illness at his home on January 13, 2019. 

He was born on February 24, 1936 in Stoneham, Massachusetts, the son of Herman and Caroline (Gilliatt) Ellis. 

Robert attended high school in Stoneham and then joined the National Guard. He moved to Maine in the late 50s and met and married June Hodges and they started a family together.

Robert worked at the shoe factory as well as Grant’s Dairy before he farmed chickens and potatoes for Donald Maxim, Penobscot Poultry, and Decoster egg farms until his retirement in 2010. 

He enjoyed NASCAR and Patriots and Red Sox Games in his spare time. Robert loved animals especially his cat Bella.

He is predeceased by his parents; wife of 31 years, June; brother Lawrence and sister Dorothy.

Robert is survived by his four children Linda, Robert, Carol and Edward Ellis; several nieces and nephews. 

At his request there will be no service, but those who wish may make memorial contributions in his memory to the family or an animal shelter of one’s choice.
