BELFAST — Waterfall Arts, a nonprofit community arts center in Belfast, has red Kim Fleming as its new executive director, succeeding Martha Piscuskas, who stepped down in February. In her role as executive director, Fleming will help the organization grow its audience, expand programming for all ages, and improve facilities.

A resident of Belfast, Fleming has more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, and management. She served as development director at the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA at the Alfond Youth Center (Waterville), the Maine Women’s Lobby (Augusta), the Maine Women’s Policy Center (Augusta), and the Penobscot Marine Museum (Searsport).

“As a thriving all around art center, Waterfall Arts brings inspiration, enlightenment, and wonder to so many,” said Fleming, in a news release. “Personally and professionally, I’m a strong advocate for the arts. I understand and appreciate the power and balance art brings to people’s lives—of all ages. I’m very excited to join such a passionate and creative team.”

Fleming will be supported by Program Director Meg Fournier, Youth and Family Outreach Manager Bridget Matros, Marketing Manager Michele Christle, Facilities Manager Mike Fletcher and other staff. Alan Crichton, one of the original founders of Waterfall Arts, continues to serve as the chair of Waterfall Rising, the organization’s ongoing capital campaign.

“Kim Fleming is the perfect person to take us to our next stage as a leading community arts organization,” said Gianne Conard, Waterfall Arts’ board president. “The combination of her knowledge of the Midcoast and its cultures, nonprofit experience, and love for the arts and education make what we expect to be a long and strong partnership. We’re delighted to welcome Kim to the Waterfall family.”

Next year, Waterfall Arts will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and it continues to have ambitious visions for its future as an art center in Midcoast Maine. Fleming will play a role in fulfilling these ambitions by increasing accessibility, expanding programming, and ensuring the overall sustainability of the organization.
