RSU 40 schools are closed amid the coronavirus until April 17, according to district officials.

RSU 40 includes Friendship Village School, Medomak Middle School, Medomak Valley High School, Miller Grade School, Prescott Memorial School, Union Elementary School, Rivers Alternative Middle School and Warren Community School.

Below is a letter from Superintendent Steve Nolan:

    Dear Families,

We have been closely monitoring news about Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the potential impact on our schools and community. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any of our schools; however, schools will be closed from March 16th – April 17th as part of a statewide effort to promote social distancing and limit gatherings larger than 250 people. We are taking this precautionary step to protect the well-being of our students, staff and community members.

Staff will report to work on Monday, March 16th to continue developing strategies to support students during this school closure. Teachers will be providing remote learning opportunities, and we are working on plans to provide meals for students who would like them. You can anticipate a gradual rollout of support after a couple days of planning. Also, school buildings will be open regular hours this coming week for students who would like to pick up school resources and personal items.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers this resource to Protect Your Family, so you can take steps to protect the health of you and your family during a COVID-19 outbreak.

I want to thank you for your understanding during this extremely challenging time. I recognize that school being closed presents significant challenges for our families. Please contact your child’s school if you have questions or need help. It is important that we hear from you, so we can consider how we can best meet your collective needs.

We will continue to monitor the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and make revisions as new information becomes available.

    Sincerely,

    Steve Nolan
    Superintendent
