UPDATED: Busline League baseball, softball divisional championship recaps

WALDOBORO — The Busline League playoffs continued Saturday, June 4 with divisional championship games held in Waldoboro. Winners of the Saturday contests advance to the Busline League championships. 

Below are scores and stats for playoff contests submitted to the Penobscot Bay Pilot sports department. 

8th Grade Softball: Medomak 6, Troy Howard 4

In the divisional championship game, with a league championship berth on the line, Medomak bested Troy Howard. 

Claudia Feeley pitched a full seven innings, allowing only one hit, walking 10 and striking out 13 batters.

At the plate for Medomak were Peyton Eaton (two singles, RBI), Kendall Simmons (single, home run, RBI), Claudia Feeley (single, triple, RBI), Haylee Chandler (two singles), Kehli Maxcy (single, RBI) and Chloe Fox (triple, RBI). 

Stats for Troy Howard were not available. 

7th Grade Baseball: Medomak 16, Oceanside 4 (in 6 innings)

In the divisional championship game, with a league championship berth on the line, Medomak topped Oceanside in six innings. 

The game was tied 3-3 after two innings before Medomak racked up five runs in the third inning, two more in the fourth, three in the fifth and another three in the sixth to earn the mercy-rule victory. 

At the plate for Medomak were Noah Wellman (two runs), Jacoby Severson (single, two runs), Lanny Morrison (single, three runs), Liam Feeley (double, two runs), Keith Miller (two singles, double, two runs), Wyatt Hood (single, run), Avery Kunesh-Lowe (single, run), Nick Bowman (run), Zac Curtis (single), Gavin Parlin (single, run), Kollin Donlin (single, run) and Jacoby Miller (run). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Nick Tripp (double), Alonzo Hoose (single, run) B. Toothaker (single, run), Brady Goetz (single), Hunter Hamilton (run), R. Roberts (single) and Easton Willis (run).

7th Grade Softball: Medomak 4, Great Salt Bay 3

The Medomak seventh grade softball team earned a spot in the Busline League championship with a nail-biting victory over Great Salt Bay. 

Medomak plated two runs in the first inning, one in the fourth inning and one in the seventh inning. Great Salt Bay, meanwhile, tallied one run in the fourth inning and two in the seventh inning. 

Here’s how the contest ended, in the bottom of the seventh inning, after Paige Gerlacks tallied a triple in the first Medomak at-bat of the inning: “Ariel Castner up to bat, laid down a beautiful bunt to the 3rd base line, just foul. Pitch number two, a pitcher perfect bunt, right down 3rd base line, fair this time. The throw to first, Gerlack took off for home, sliding in for SAFE! MMS winning the game! The crowd and MMS girls go wild. What a way to end it!”

At the plate for Medomak were Grace Townsend (two singles), Sidney Nicholls (walk), Grace Havener (triple, RBI), Rachel Barbour (walk), Arie Kennard (walk), Jennika Schumann (single, RBI), Ivy McCollett (walk), Paige Gerlack (single, triple), Ariel Castner (single, RBI). 

At the plate for Great Salt Bay were Brewer (single), Thompson (single), Ball (single, homerun), Starbird (hit by pitch), Waltz (walk), Robbins (walk). First names were not available. 

Both team’s pitchers tallied eight strikeouts while neither team’s defense recorded an error during the contest. Nicholls, the Medomak pitcher, Nicholls also had two walks and hit one batter. For Great Salt Bay, Ball also allowed four walks.
