'Stitches and Storytelling: Landscape Fiber Art' opening reception in Tenants Harbor
On Friday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m., the Jackson Memorial Library in Tenants Harbor will host an opening reception for its August show, “Stitches and Storytelling: Landscape Fiber Art.”
Maggie Moran uses hundreds – in some cases thousands – of tiny stitches to bring landscapes to life. She artfully combines knitting, sewing, felting and embroidery, utilizing fabric, yarn, and wool fibers, as well as found items.
“Landscapes are not just static images; they are dynamic spaces filled with layers of meaning and history that can be accessed and understood through storytelling,” said Moran. “Storytelling allows us to reveal hidden narratives within landscapes, fostering deeper connections with the world around us.”
For her August show, Moran will include an original “story” for each piece exhibited. The pieces on display will include realistic depictions of scenes in and around St. George and the Midcoast, a selection of “quick” stitch motifs that speak to what’s special about living in Maine, and earlier fiber art pieces that feature whimsical interpretations of Moran’s travels to Scotland and Ireland.
Maggie Moran practices woolcraft in her studio on States Point Road, St. George. Her vibrant textile landscapes and cityscapes will be on display in the library’s light-filled community room from August 8 through 29th, 2025.
