ROCKLAND — Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center hosts a spring art opening, Friday, May 3, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Linda Shepard, of Union, fabric art; Carl Solberg, of Waldoboro, wood carvings and sculptures; and Jackson Memorial Library After School Artists will be exhibiting.

Shepard’s show, Animal Alchemy is a collection of interpretive and colorful creatures made with the intent to celebrate the ordinary. Sometimes with humor, whimsy, reverence or with an eye toward the dream world.

Solberg’s show will feature large wall natural landscapes and full-figure floor sculptures using the beauty of American hardwoods to illustrate spaces and instances in nature.

“As a life-long conservation advocate, he is delighted to have his first local solo show supporting Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge,” said the Refuge, in a news release.

Jackson Memorial Library After School Artists are students from St. George School who have taken advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings of their community. Artwork has been created by students in grades 2-5.

This art will be on display from May 3 through July 19. For more information, call 594-0600 x5.
