Searsport man found deceased in Belfast stream
BELFAST — A 28-year-old Searsport man was found deceased Friday morning in Belfast, not far from where he last been seen in the city, after family reported him missing from his home the previous afternoon.
Jonathan Grinstein-Camacho was reportedly found face down in a small brook on High Street, wearing only a pair of jeans, according to a media release.
Grinstein-Camacho’s family told police that he left the family home and took the family vehicle just after 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 3.
At 6:04 that evening, Belfast Police received a report of a man “acting strangely” at a local convenience store. Belfast Police were able to make contact with Grinstein-Camacho, and contacted his family to come pick him up from the location. At some point during his interaction with police, Grinstein-Camacho was reportedly able to “slip away from officers,” and was thought to be headed toward downtown Belfast. He left behind the vehicle, which his family retrieved.
Belfast Police alerted Waldo County Hospital with a request they be contacted should Grinstein-Camacho show up there, and officers reportedly searched for Grinstein-Camacho throughout the night. He was located just after 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 4.
According to Belfast Police, there was “no sign of serious injury or foul play.” The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine a cause of death.
Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
