From July 3 through August 28, the Rockport Public Library will host an art show of works by abstract artist Noah Stitt. The exhibit, “Heavy Light,” features paintings and sculpture exploring play, structure, and the medium of paint.

“Using humor, subtlety, and suspension, my work explores the boundary between the objective and subjective image,” says Stitt. “Scenes are set in which the viewer is left to decide for themselves how to interpret the slippage between the two. With a heavy material presence, these objects and images lend themselves to a narrative reading. I think of them as 'narrative abstractions’."

Noah Stitt holds an MFA in Studio Art from Hunter College, CUNY, where he also taught; a BFA from Montana State University (also in Studio Art); and participated in the Early College Program at Maine College of Art. He has worked at the Coastal Maine Art Workshops, High Street Gallery, and in an ice studio in Queens, New York. Among other venues, his work has been shown at Hunter College Gallery and online at Hauser & Wirth.

After many years living in various parts of the country, Stitt now resides in his home state of Maine.
