Leland Joseph McKinney, obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Leland Joseph McKinney, age 18, on July 19, 2025, due to a tragic car accident.
Leland was a gifted mechanic and a passionate soul, known for his love of race cars, farming, and his cherished trips to Islesboro. His infectious grin, sharp wit, and unshakable dedication to his craft brought joy and inspiration to everyone who knew him. Whether tuning an engine or working in the fields, Leland poured his heart into everything he did.
He found his calling early, spending countless hours at Michaud Farms, where he learned alongside the Michaud family. With a work ethic passed down from his father, Leland quickly became skilled in farming machinery and race car performance, even showcasing his talents at Unity Raceway with The Rebuild.
His recent visit to Islesboro was a special chapter in his life—one he had looked forward to for years—and we are grateful he had the chance to connect with so many he loved before his passing.
Leland will be forever missed by his loving parents, Kevin and Selina McKinney, and his girlfriend, Chrissy. He is also survived by his siblings: Kelsie and Ben, Ashleigh and Chris, Arianna, and Tyler, as well as Phil and Kelly Walsh. Leland was a devoted uncle to Emmalia, Kohner, Gunner, Jordyn, Bentlee, and Kody. His best friend Chevelle, and a wide circle of family and friends, will carry his memory forward.
A celebration of Life is being planned, with details to be announced soon.
FARMING. RACING. FAMILY.
