BRUNSWICK — The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing the on ramp to U.S. Route 1 Southbound from Cooks Corner and the off ramp from Route 1 Southbound to Route 196 (Brunswick Topsham Bypass) on September 29, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The ramps will be closed with signs and cones, and traffic will be expected to use the next available exit.

Drivers heading towards Route 1 Southbound from Cooks Corner should remain on Route 24 (Bath Road) to Maine Street.

Drivers heading towards the Brunswick Topsham Bypass (Route 196) over the Androscoggin River via Route 1 Southbound should use the next exit which leads to Maine Street/Frank J. Wood Bridge.

This closure is part of an ongoing highway rehabilitation project. The project area begins 0.17 miles east of Cushing Street and extends east 3.02 miles as well as 0.70 miles west of Old Bath Road and extends west 3.39 miles. The project area includes all approaches and ramps. This project consists of highway rehabilitation, pavement milling, hot mix asphalt overlay, and safety improvements.

The contractor on this project is Coastal Road Repair of Westbrook, Maine. The contract amount is $15,544,396.25.
