Rockport Select Board member resigns, leaving three open seats for June elections
ROCKPORT — Rockport Select Board member Michelle Hannan has resigned her position, leaving three open Select Board seats up for election at the June 9 town meeting polls.
The Rockport Select Board is due to formally accept Hannan's resignation at a March 9 regularly scheduled meeting, and then open the nomination process March 10 for those who would like to fill out her term, which now has one remaining year.
Town Manager Jon Duke said March 5 that, "the Board has to acknowledge her letter at their meeting next week and then open nomination papers for the seat with a very slightly reduced nomination paper period (only a week shorter)."
Hannan's resignation letter, and reasons for her stepping down from the board, have not been made available to the public.
Nomination papers for her seat will be available Tuesday, March 10, at 8 a.m. for the one-year term. Those Rockport citizens intending to take out papers for any elected board or committee seats need to visit the town office in person to pick up the papers. All papers are due back to the town office April 10 by 3:30 p.m.
Currently, there are two three-year terms available for the Select Board. Those are now occupied by Michael Thompson and Kim Graffam. The one-year seat adds another option to serve on the Rockport Select Board. As of March 5, Graffam and Craig Mitchell have taken out papers for Select Board, according to Rockport Town Clerk Liz Lowe.
