a dwindling of trained volunteers
Rockland's Emergency Warming Center adds night, Sat., Jan. 31
Fri, 01/30/2026 - 9:43am
Rockland's Emergency Warming Center has added one additional night, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, before closing up on Sunday morning, February 1, at 7 a.m.
"Some folks will inevitably ask why we're closing when it's still cold out...good question," said Luca Mellon, in a news release. "Our trained staff availability is dwindling after filling the 36 shifts it takes to stay open for 9 consecutive nights. I'm grateful to them for keeping our doors open for this slew of single-digits and negative-lows, and look forward to announcing another opening soon."
