Oceanside softball mercy-rules Nokomis

NEWPORT — The Oceanside varsity softball team hit the road Wednesday, May 15 for a contest against Nokomis. 

Oceanside earned a 14-1 mercy-rule victory over Nokomis. 

With the win, Oceanside improved its record to 9-2. 

Oceanside plated a run in the second inning, five in the fourth and eight in the sixth. 

Nokomis tallied its lone run in the fifth frame. 

Oceanside recorded 12 hits and committed five errors. 

Nokomis collected two hits and committed no errors. 

Chloe Jones pitched for Oceanside and fanned 13 batters. 

Pitching for Nokomis were Alisa Ellis (four innings, three strikeouts, two walks), Maddie King (0.1 innings, eight walks) and Michelle Cooney (0.2 innings, six walks). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Raechel Joyce (two singles, three RBIs), Jones (two singles), Adrianna Whitemore (two singles), Abby Veilleux (single, two RBIs), Grace Pratt (single, RBI), Autumn Harvey (single, RBI), Anna Kingsbury (single, RBI), Jessica Watkinson (bunt single, RBI) and Kalli Grover (single). 

Recording hits for Nokomis were Marci Leal (double) and Alisha Allard (single). 

“It was a very cold day with rain off and on during the game, the girls dug deep and finished off the game with 8 runs in the 6th inning,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester.
 
Oceanside will host Winslow for its next contest Friday, May 17 at 4 p.m.
