Oceanside softball edges Belfast

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside and Belfast varsity softball teams met in Rockland for a Tuesday, May 21 contest. 

Oceanside improved its record to 11-2 when it collected a 3-1 victory over the visiting Lions. 

With the loss, Belfast dropped to 3-10. 

Up next for Oceanside will be a home contest against Camden Hills on Wednesday, May 22 at 4 p.m.

Up next for Belfast will be a home contest against Mount Desert Island on Thursday, May 23 at 4 p.m.

Oceanside plated its trio of runs in the fourth inning, while Belfast recorded its lone run in the sixth frame. 

Oceanside tallied eight hits and committed two errors, while Belfast had three hits and two errors. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Belfast was Gia Dayila, who fanned seven batters and walked four in six innings. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Oceanside was Chloe Jones, who fanned 10 batters and recorded one hit-by-pitch in seven innings. 

At the plate for Belfast were Kayci Faulkingham (single, double) and Grace Fitzjuris (single). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Kalli Grover (two singles), Grace Pratt (two singles), Lily Judecki (triple), Rachel Joyce (double, two RBIs), Adrianna Whitemore (double) and Abby Veilleux (single, stolen base). 

“I was pleased with our performance but Belfast is a better team than their record shows, they might surprise some teams at the end of this season,” said Oceanside head softball coach Rusty Worcester.
