MRC expanding its free red ball youth tennis program
ROCKPORT — This past September, the Midcoast Recreation Center launched its free Red Ball youth tennis program for kids ages 6-8.
To date, MRC has seen over 95 kids participate in this program. And, thanks to generous support from Dan and Sheryl Tishman, the MRC is expanding this program beginning in January.
This program is offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. starting in January. All of MRC’s youth tennis programs run in calendar month sessions; new month, new session. Registrations are now being accepted through March.
MRC is also pleased to announce several other new additions to the Red Ball program in the New Year. All of the kids registered will now receive a properly sized tennis racket that is theirs to keep. Additionally, all participants will be eligible for MRC’s junior team tennis Red Ball league which will start in April.
All of this is offered at no cost to the participants.
“The Red Ball program’s mission is to serve the community, impact the lives of youth and grow the sport by taking down the barriers to entry,” says MRC tennis director Seth Meyer. “MRC strives to offer opportunity to all kids in pursuit of an active and healthy lifestyle and develop skills both on and off the court.”
