Mike J. Cmar, obituary

ROCKPORT — Michael J. Cmar, 63, of Rockport, passed away unexpectedly March 8, 2024, at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Mike was born in Duval County, Florida on January 9, 1961 and was the son of Margarette (Meyer) and Michael A. Cmar. Following high school, Mike served in the US Army for 4 years, where he received IT training, kicking off a long career in IT.

In 2013, he married Gayle (Pinette) Cmar. Together they enjoyed growing things, kayaking, and traveling to explore National Parks and landmarks. They lived in Rockport with their cats Scout, LuLu and Suzy, as well as their chickens, geese, and Mike’s beloved ducks.

Mike was a man of many interests and passions. When he started a new hobby, he was known to jump in with both feet, whether he was making his own cheese and cider or raising a flock of birds.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoying hunting, fishing and ice fishing with his friends. In addition, he loved to share stories about his many passions and adventures.

Mike was predeceased by his parents; his stepfather, Tom Fessel; and brother, Christopher Cmar. 

He is survived by Gayle; brother John Cmar of Delaware; sister, Linda O’Driscoll and husband, Greg, of Florida; niece, Katherine Fisne and husband Sean, and family of Pennsylvania; stepchildren, Megan Day, of Belmont, Lindsey LeMay and husband Josh, of Belfast, Sam Richardson and wife, Casey; and grandsons, Finn and Rowan of Northport.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the Rockport Masonic Center, 361 Main Street, Rockport, with the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet officiating.
