Midcoast Poetry Calendar and Journal presents an afternoon of poetry featuring poets Ellen Goldsmith and Karin Spitfire, Oct. 12, 2025, from 1 - 2:30 p.m., at Thomaston Public Library.
There will also be readings from the Midcoast Poetry Journal Vol. 2 poets and an Open Mic. Bring a poem to share, yours or from a poet you admire.
Karin Spitfire is the author of The Body in Late Stage Capitalism (2021) Standing with Trees (2005) and a chapbook “Wild Caught,” (2007). Spitfire won national first place in the 2019 Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Contest, for “Liquidation.” Her poems have appeared in, You Say. Say, Canary: A Literary Journal of the Environmental Crisis, The Catch Trivia: Voices of Feminism, Currents, and the Journal of Body Mind Centering. She was the Poet Laureate of Belfast in 2007 and 2008.
Ellen Goldsmith reads, writes, and teaches poetry. Her books include Left Foot, Right Foot, Where to Look, Such Distances and No Pine Tree in This Forest Is Perfect which won the 1997 Slapering Hol Press Chapbook Contest. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals and in anthologies. Professor Emeritus of the City University of New York, she lives in Cushing.
