WALDOBORO, UNION — Two confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with Medomak Valley High School and Union Elementary School have caused RSU 40 to send students at both schools home for remote learning until further notice.

“I cannot share information about the individuals involved; however, the cases are connected,” said Superintendent Steve Nolan, Oct. 28. “We are closely following the Standard Operating Procedure provided by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and working with CDC investigators to identify individuals determined to be close contacts, as well as following federal CDC Reopening Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting. Both Medomak Valley High School and Union Elementary School will remain open for remote learning only until further notice.”

The district is sending letters to staff and families concerning the situation.

“Individuals determined to be close contacts were notified through separate communication,” he said. “We continue to work with Maine CDC staff for guidance and follow their direction about what information can be shared and when.”
