UNION — Margie Blake Peabody, 92, passed away peacefully at her home Friday, October 29, 2021 with Fred, her husband of 69, years by her side.

Margie was born in Union to James and Abbie Bryant Blake.

She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Geneva and Mary; three brothers, Kenneth, Lawrence, and John; and a daughter-in-law Gina Peabody.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; her four children, Deborah Peabody M.D. and her wife Doreen Kendall D.O. of Rockland, Melody McDermott and her husband Charles, Timothy Peabody and his wife Barbara of Appleton, Alan Peabody of St. Helen Island, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Sean and Elizabeth of Suffolk, Virginia, Benjamin of Appleton, Andrew and his wife Tami of Nine Mile Falls, Washington, Zoe Perpall of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, Anna Peabody and her husband Mike Eberhard of Helena Montana; her great-grandchildren, Trinity and Taryn of Nine Mile Falls, Washington; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Margie always said, “Two boys and two girls, all two years apart, I planned it that way.”

Margie graduated from Farmington State College with a B.A. in teaching. She taught home economics in Jonesport, Lee Academy and Waldoboro before settling down to raise a family. She believed in staying home to raise her children and resumed teaching when daughter Melody entered kindergarten. She loved teaching and taught kindergarten in Union for 25 years. Her students were like her own children, she loved and disciplined them, and taught them well; many in Knox County can remember kindergarten with “Mrs. Peabody”.

Education was important to her and she made sure all her children went to college. When her son Alan announced he wanted to work at the Union dump, she promptly responded, “that’s fine dear you can work at the dump after you get an engineering degree from UMO;” he graduated from UMO and runs a successful industrial design business.

In retirement she and Fred enjoyed visiting family, friends and neighbors and camping throughout Maine and Canada. They were very fond of the Downeast coast and the woods of northern Maine especially during fall foliage season.

She wished to remain in her home until her passing and that wish was granted with the help of Fred, and special caregivers, Pat, Martha, Judy, Tammy, Amie, Jeanne, Esther, and Carole. We offer special thanks to neighbors Seth, Debbie, Eddie and Donna McDonald who pitched in to help Margie at a moment’s notice.

Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11 a.m., at East Union Cemetery, Miller Road, Union.

In lieu of flowers those that wish to remember Margie may donate to the Union Ambulance PO Box 186, Union, ME. 04862.
