Margaret 'Peggy' (Feyler) Libby, obituary
THOMASTON — Margaret “Peggy” Lillian (Feyler) Libby, 89, passed peacefully Saturday, August 15, 2026, at home after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Peggy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Wallace Feyler and Vera (Morse) Johnston. After moving to Thomaston in 1954 she graduated from Thomaston High School in 1955.
Peggy married Malcolm Guy Libby on August 25, 1956. They travelled extensively while Malcolm served in the US Air Force until his retirement in 1974 when they moved to Waldoboro and then Union to their beloved 7 Tree Pond home. Malcolm passed away on August 17, 1995.
Peggy worked many different jobs throughout her life. Her first job, as she told her granddaughter, was at a dry cleaner in Boston. She also told stories of working at the Craignair Inn, Spruce Head, waitressing as a teenager where she lived during the summer months. She worked at the Base Exchange on Langley AFB, Virginia; worked at Grant’s in Rockland; as well as a cashier at Be-at-Ease Market (later Frank’s Market) in Warren before turning to her banking career. Peggy was Head Teller at Maine National Bank (later Fleet Bank) in Thomaston. A bank robbery occurred during her time there where luckily no one was hurt. She also worked as a teller at Rockland Savings Bank. Peggy was also an Avon Representative and worked at PenBay Hospital as a patient registration clerk.
Peggy was a 30-year member of the Second Congregational Church in Warren where she served as a deacon along with being a member of the Ladies Circle.
Family was Peggy’s number one priority and she treasured getting her family together, especially for “Libby Day” and “Libby Christmas”. She was always active going on vacations with family and friends; spending time at camp; winters in Florida; attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren's games, recitals, and school activities. She very much enjoyed her weekly Dominoes with friends; Quilting Group; Red Hat Ladies; Club Girls (lunches); and the Thursday Card Group.
In addition to her parents, stepfather William Johnston, and her husband, Peggy was predeceased by her stepdaughter, Dolly Libby, her granddaughter Heather Baker, as well as all 4 of her siblings, Dottie Moulaison, Bob Feyler, Betty Olsen and Dick Feyler.
Survivors include her loving children, Bill Libby and his wife Allison of Cushing, Betty Baker and her husband David of Warren, Fred Libby and his wife Gretta of Waldoboro, and Dawn Libby-Lynch and her husband Peter of Waldoboro; her grandchildren Krystle Gagne and her husband Christian, Jonathan Libby, April Dickey and her husband Billy, Brian Baker, Malcolm Libby and his wife Laurie, Deering Genthner III, and Casey Libby; her great-grandchildren, Ellie, Libby, Kaysen, Hunter, Vayda and Nora; her brother-in-law, Ronald Libby and his wife Lorraine; her sister-in-law, Betsy Feyler; and a very special cousin, Kathleen Anderson; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
