Lesia Sochor talks at Local Color Gallery during October Art Walk
Local Color Gallery welcomes back guest artist Lesia Sochor, whose work will continue to be displayed through November 16. Sochor entertained a full house at last month’s opening during Belfast’s Fourth Friday Art Walk. She has accepted the gallery’s invitation to return and talk again at this month’s Art Walk reception, Friday, October 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sochor will speak at 5:30 p.m.
As they do every month, the fourteen year-round artists of Local Gallery will hang new work, constantly giving the gallery and its viewers a fresh look. As guest artist, Lesia Sochor will speak about her series “Thimble,” highlighting the way hands and hand gestures are a universal method of communication and how a thimble – used since ancient times – is both a tool and a metaphor for protection. Sochor is enthusiastic in speaking of her inspiration, her process and her work.
Lesia Sochor has been a part of the artistic fiber of Waldo County since she co- founded “Artfellows,” the first cooperative gallery in Belfast, in 1980. She is a devotee of this art community. A graduate of Philadelphia College of Art, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibits in museums, universities, libraries and galleries. Recent exhibit venues include the Danforth Art Museum, the Michael Klahr Center at UMA, the Zillman Museum, the Belfast Library, and the Littlefield, Parsonage, and Cove Street galleries.
Local Color Gallery is located at 135 High Street in Belfast. Current hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 to 5, and Sunday 11 to 4. For more information see localcolorgallerymaine.org or call 207-218-1249.
