Knox County Girl Scout troops honor Veterans
Knox Service Unit Girl Scouts Troops honored local veterans through heartfelt participation in several community Veterans Day events this month.
During a ceremony at Appleton Village School on November 7, members of Troop 1875 and 1820 took part in the opening program by reading and performing In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. The event was beautifully organized by staff member Ms. Billings.
Troop 1693 proudly provided the Color Guard for a Veterans Day event held at St. George School on Monday, November 10, according to a Girl Scouts of Maine news release. The ceremony was a collaborative effort organized by Kinney Melquist Post, Tenants Harbor, and the school.
At American Legion Post 37, Thomaston, Veterans from all over Knox County joined Girl Scouts Troops 191, 548, 1451, 1562, and 1820 for a spaghetti lunch. The girls also created handmade “Thank You for Your Service” cards, which were distributed to the more than 50 veterans in attendance.
"The Girl Scouts were grateful to serve those who served and are looking forward to hosting again next year," said the Scouts. "Knox Service Unit Girl Scouts are committed to community service and honoring those who have served our country."
